HA1 - Task 3 - Graphic Types

Pixel Art

Pixel art is a type of art that consists of being made up of pixels. The sizes of these pixels can differ as they can go from a 16x16 resolution all the way to a 512x512 resolution. Obviously, the higher the resolution, the more clear and less jagged the edges will seem. A pixel can be made a certain colour and this means that the pixel image can be customised into a design that would be able to suit and go with a certain character. This could be used for many things in games, in Minecraft, it could be used to design a new skin or in Pokemon Blue and Red, it could be used to make the sprites, background and objects.

Concept Art

Concept art is the process of the developing of an object within a game which would usually consist of drawing and sketches of the making of the character. This is practically a plan of what a character will look like, what they will where, how they stand,  height, width, weapon and a lot more stuff. This is fiddled around with until they find a good design that they want to use and then the character develops further and then the character is created and implemented into the game.

Texture Art

The texture art could suggest multiple things. The skin or mapping of a character could be one outcome for the texture art and this is a file that has a certain texture over it and it would wrap around the character depending on the way it is programmed to. This is also the same with some of the background objects or for example block in Minecraft. Texture art could also be how a surface can look and the texture can look 3D and either smooth or rough.

Background Graphics

The Background graphics change in every game. For example, in a game like Mortal Kombat, the background is quite detailed even though that it is in the background and not the main focus. This consists of the area that surrounds the characters and this means that it needs detail so that you can think that the game looks very nice and polished but it doesn't need to be extremely detailed considering that it will not really be seen as the background is most likely to be moving and changing throughout a level like in Super Mario bros and this means that the background changes.

Print Media Art

Print Media art is usually created for products such as the case that a game come in for console or maybe an accessory that is related to the game. The case is one of the main things that could persuade a person to buy a game by looking at the detail and effect put into the front cover and also how well detailed the blurb is. It is also good to add new effects to make it look unique which could make it stand out better than other games. This could also include designs of posters, T-shirts and other accessories.
